Photocatalalytic Bactericidal Effect of TiO2 Thin Film Produced by Cathodic Arc Deposition Method

Photocatalytic TiO2 thin films were successfully obtained by cathodic arc deposition technique. The films were deposited on stainless steel (AISI 304) sheets at different substrate temperatures using a titanium metal target in 100 % O2 atmosphere. Applied magnetic focusing provided anatase crystal structure at all substrate temperatures. The bactericidal effect of the films was monitored by determining the survival ratio of Escherichia coli K12 strain on the films after UV treatment.
